The remains of United Airlines executive Jacob Cefolia were discovered in a nature preserve in a Chicago suburb. Cefolia has been missing for more than a year. An autopsy has confirmed the remains found in Illinois’ DuPage County Forest Preserve to be Cefolia’s.
The body of the 50-year-old executive was discovered hanging by a belt from an uprooted tree in a thickly forested area in Darien, Illinois, Chief David Pederson announced Sunday.
Cefolia’s personal belongings including, a wallet, driver’s license, and a backpack, were also found at the scene. The clothes he was last seen wearing were also uncovered. However, investigators did not suspect any foul play.
Cefolia has been missing since August 2020. Even though his vehicle was found parked outside the forest, Cefolia’s body was never found inside the nature preserve until Sunday.
Several law enforcement agencies had searched the area multiple times. Police described the area as a dense forest with tree canopy, very thick briars, and lush vegetation, and was a little bit far from where Cefolia’s vehicle was found parked.
Some contractors found Cefolia’s body in an area south of a youth group campground. He was identified through odontology.
