A billionaire banker’s desperate son was killed by a boat propeller while trying to rescue his girlfriend during a Florida Keys fishing competition.
The 31-year-old victim, Juan Carlos Escotet Alviarez, the son of Venezuela-based Juan Carlos Escotet Rodriguez, sadly lost his life on Saturday afternoon after diving into waters about six miles off north Key Largo as he and his 30-year-old girlfriend, Andrea Montero, tried to snag sailfish from a 60-foot boat, the Miami Herald reported.

Escotet Alviarez jumped into the water in an attempt to save Montero when she fell overboard. However, Alviarez hit the vessel’s propeller and died immediately from his injuries, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported.
The pair were taking part in a fishing tournament organized by the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. Details about Montero’s condition were not available.

According to the Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional, Escotet Alviarez was the youngest son of Escotet Rodriguez.
Escotet Alviarez had served as the director of the Miami-based Banesco USA and also had “vast experience” in real estate development throughout the Miami area, according to his profile on the company’s website.
In an Instagram post, Venezuela-based journalist Angela Oraa said Montero managed to safely get out of the water.
