The rivalry between Sevilla and Barcelona may not be as intense as it is with Real Madrid, but it sure carries its own fair share of drama. In the past week, Barcelona would surely be the happier of the two teams. Rightfully so, as they were able to turn around a 2-goal first leg deficit, to end up winning their Copa Del Rey second leg tie 3-2 on aggregate.
Thanks to their success against Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey semi-final second leg, Barcelona can now confidently address last week’s taunt thrown their way by Sevilla. The Sevilla taunt was aimed directly at Barcelona’s Gerard Pique via a disrespectful meme. In the meme, you would see a 34 year old Pique struggling to keep up with the pace of young Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe. This is a direct reference to the UEFA Champions League first leg match between Barcelona and PSG, where the Paris team outplayed Barca at the Camp Nou.
PSG ended up winning the game 1-4, with the young Mbappe exploiting the no-so-young Pique. Mbappe made Pique look slow and weak, and this inspired Sevilla to create the disrespectful meme. Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey was their second win over them in the space of one week. But getting their revenge on the pitch just wasn’t good enough.
The Catalan club took to Twitter to throw slight jabs at Sevilla after the win.
They tweeted – “football is about respect. Goodnight”. Simple and straight to the point – Don’t disrespect Pique again!
