An Arizona man has been honored by the Phoenix Sheriff’s Office for restraining a man who was assaulting a teenage girl in downtown Phoenix last month.

On Feb. 11, a teenage girl was out to meet with her boyfriend downtown near Roosevelt Street when a man approached and grabbed her from behind, a surveillance video shared by the Phoenix PD showed.

That’s when bystander Josh Jones leaped to the girl’s defense by taking the suspect down and sitting on him until deputies arrived.

On March 22, the Department honored Jones with a Citizens Award for his caring and brave actions.

“I just did what I thought was right,” Jones told Law Enforcement officers during an interview.
