Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was filmed in a crowded, packed bar in Miami without wearing a mask, according to footage posted on social media Sunday. The 32-year-old congresswoman has since faced criticism for vacationing in Florida, while New York faces a record surge in COVID-19.
In the video, most of the large crowd at the drag bar were also without a mask, and they can be seen applauding the congresswoman as she waved to them, as first reported by Florida’s Conservative Voice.
The reporter, Brendon Leslie, who first posted the video on Twitter, said that the whole point of the footage is to expose hypocrisy.
We don’t actually care she’s maskless. We care she fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here,” wrote Brendon Leslie, the reporter who first tweeted the video, Leslie twitted.
Following the spread of the omicron variant, Ocasio-Cortez’s home state of New York has seen a record surge in coronavirus cases.

Among Ocasio-Cortez’s critics is a former Trump campaign advisor Steve Cortes, who had taken a shot at her boyfriend’s choice of sandal.
In response to Steve Cortes’ tweet, Ocasio-Cortez wrote:
“If Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet. It’s starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women,& LGBT+ people in general. These people clearly need therapy, won’t do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It’s really weird”
