Georgia authorities said a soldier is on the run after he fatally shot his ex-wife, and wounded a grandmother who was holding her infant grandchild in Cherokee County.
Authorities are searching for 30-year-old Acworth resident Christopher Thomas, who fled the scene. According to investigators, Thomas is the ex-husband of Victoria Thomas, the mother of the 4-month-old child involved in the shooting.
Investigators announced on Monday they found Thomas’ black Kia 900 near Due West Road in Kennesaw but Thomas was nowhere to be found.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson said the shooting occurred on Sunday night at 200 Autumn Brook Drive, east of Canton. Responding officers found two people shot. Deputies said 30-year-old Victoria Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 68-year-old mother, Myrna Garcia, was severely wounded and is reported to be in critical condition at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. She was holding a 4-month-old baby when she was shot, deputies said.
Fortunately, the baby was wounded in the shooting, but was evaluated at Wellstar Kennestone, deputies said.
A witness told investigators that Thomas was wearing a hat or bandana at the time of the incident, so investigators can’t confirm the current length of his hair. Investigators are still looking for Thomas and ask anyone with information to call 911.
