An 84-year-old Pennsylvania man is facing a murder charge in the death of his wife, authorities said.
Dan Mook, of Philadelphia, is accused of fatally stabbing his 82-year-old wife and then turning the knife on himself, cops said.
On Sunday, according to authorities, officers discovered the suspect with multiple self-inflicted cuts and stab wounds at an assisted living facility in Burlington County. He survived the stabbing after being transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was treated, Fox29 reported.
Officers found Mook’s wife, Sharon Mook, dead in their bedroom. Her cause of death was multiple stabs and slash wounds, according to an autopsy.
Investigators believe Dan may have stabbed his wife in a mercy killing because he was concerned she was suffering. Sharon was reportedly in poor health.
Dan was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
