A Mississippi woman has been arrested after officials said she attempted to kill her child by throwing her onto the street on Thursday.
The 20-year-old mother, Makaylia Jolley, of Pearl, repeatedly and forcibly threw her 8-week-old daughter onto Bierdeman Road, according to authorities.
Several witnesses called 911 at about 2 p.m. on Thursday to report the disturbing incident, according to city spokesman Greg Flynn.
Upon arrival, the fire department and paramedics quickly administered first aid before transporting the child to Children’s Hospital of Mississippi in Jackson. The 8-week-old victim is reported to be in critical condition, WAPT reported.
“I think the whole department got there in a minute and a half to two minutes,” Flynn said. “And they got there and it was another woman holding a severely injured baby.”
Officials said the mother fled the scene on foot and was arrested in a nearby wooded area after a police chase. Jolley was taken into custody.
“There are not words. I mean, heinous, evil. It’s just incomprehensible to witnesses on what they say they saw (done) to an 8-week-old baby,” Flynn said. “The way will come later, but right now, just please keep your prayers on that little baby.”
Jolley has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
A potential motive for the evil act was not immediately known.
