A Georgia deputy was fatally struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at the intersection of Highway 138 and Highway 212, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies, who are mourning the loss of one of their own, say the deadly crash occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 138 and Highway 212 on Wednesday afternoon.
According to officials, Deputy Jenkins was directing traffic when he was hit by a vehicle. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials say the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene until responding officers arrived. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, Fox 5 reported.
