An off-duty NYPD officer reportedly shot and killed another man and then turned the gun on himself apparently over a love triangle. The violent incident occurred outside an upstate bar Sunday night, authorities told The New York Post.
The violence unfolded at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Wallkill, Orange County, around 10:30 p.m. Investigators believe that the shooting may have been over a woman.
The NYPD has not yet released the name of the officer. Town of Wallkill Police also did not immediately provide information on the incident.
“Police not confirming anything at this time,” Mark Lieb of Rockland Video Productions said in an email. “But two people covered with body bags or tarp were seen in the parking lot with cops and detectives hovering around them.”
One eyewitness, who was staying at the La Quinta Inn & Suites, told News12 that he was out walking his dog when he heard a crash. “Then one guy jumps out, comes over here and starts shooting away. And I was like ‘whoa.’ I called 911. By that time, there were two deceased on the ground here in the parking lot.”
Authorities will provide an update later today.
