Some residents in Alabama have reported spotting fugitive correctional officer Vicky White entering an adult store prior to disappearing with escaped Lauderdale County prisoner Casey Cole White.
However, people working in the store told investigators that they could not comment on any potential sightings, NewsNation reported. Others said they saw her inside a department store purchasing men’s clothing before she left, the outlet reported.
On the morning of April 29, Casey White, 38, and Vicky White, 56, who were reported to be in a “special relationship,” vanished from Alabama’s Lauderdale County Detention Center.
Last Thursday, investigators got a tip around 11 p.m. about an SUV matching the description of the 2007 Ford Edge and have since been able to confirm the vehicle is the same one used by Vicky White and Casey Cole White after their disappearance on April 29, the U.S. Marshal Service announced Friday.
In an interview with NewsNation, Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said he was surprised by Vicky White’s disappearance.
“Solid was my word for her. So when this happened it was such a shock. She was not a big talker. But got things done,” Connolly told the outlet. “It is like the stages of grief. You say, “This is unbelievable. This didn’t happen.’ Then you get to the point, where I am now, and I am mad that she did this.”
On the contrary, Tyson Johnson, who worked under Vicky White at the jail for seven years, says nobody is surprised.
“Nobody is surprised. Nobody that worked there with her is surprised,” he told NewsNation.
Vicky White, a high-ranking jail guard, disappeared with Casey after telling her colleagues that she was transporting the prisoner for an evaluation at the county courthouse, according to officials. She said she would then go to see her doctor, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton.
Investigators later learned that Casey was not scheduled for an evaluation at the time. Last Thursday, the U.S. Marshal Service released images showing what Vicky White would look like in case she changed the color of her hair from her normal blonde to a darker shade, or if she shortened it from her typical length.
The USMS is offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads them to the fugitives. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshals at 1-800-336-0102.
