Georgia YouTube star Kevin Samuels, who sprung to fame via social media and was a well-known controversial life and dating coach, passed away on Thursday, his mother confirmed to NBC News. He was 56 years old.
Rumors of Samuels’ death circulated on social media Thursday and Friday when local sources reported that cops found the self-appointed relationship coach unresponsive at his Atlanta, Georgia home.
Samuels’ cause of death remains unknown as an autopsy is pending. His mother, Beverly Samuels-Burch, who also learned of his death on social media, declined to talk about what happened.
Police officers responded to a call reporting that a “person was injured” inside a home. Upon arrival, responding officers found an unresponsive Samuels, according to Atlanta police.
A woman in the home with him at the time told officers that Samuels complained about chest pain before collapsing, cops said.
Samuels was famous for what many of his fans called his misogynistic views on women (particularly amongst the Black community) and went under the self-proclaimed title of “image consultant.”
He became popular on social media when he went viral for his “You’re Average At Best” video — which generated over 2.5 million views.
The video caused a war on social media when clips of it made rounds on Instagram and Twitter.
Samuels leaves behind an Instagram following of 1.2 million, over 1.44 million subscribers on YouTube, and nearly 40K followers on Twitter.
