Two Texas men were busted after they allegedly assaulted a hot dog vendor in Austin. The victim was left with life-threatening injuries during a dispute over prices, authorities said.
The two assailants, 21-year-old Jeremy Delgado and 19-year-old Bobby Wynn were arrested and charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault for allegedly beating up the vendor on East Sixth Street around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, according to court documents obtained by KXAN.
Witnesses told the outlet that Delgado was arguing with the unidentified vendor about the $6 price of the hot dogs before they started punching and kicking the vendor several times.
According to one witness, Delgado started yelling at the vendor about the pricey frank, but the scuffle swiftly “got out of hand,” the affidavit said.
The victim was found covered in blood by a responding officer outside of the bar and was transported to a nearby medical facility with “life-threatening injuries” as a result of the attack. The victim’s injuries include a gash in his head that required staples, a lacerated liver and widespread pain all over his body.
Delgado and Wynn fled the scene to a nearby parking lot under a highway, where police found them. They were apprehended after police officers spotted blood stains on Delgado’s shoes and pants, according to the affidavit.
Wynn faces an additional charge for tampering with evidence after he “removed his shoes and tried to throw them away,” as police officers approached the pair, the affidavit says. Police found the shoes covered in “fresh blood.”
Each of them is currently being held at the Travis County Jail on a $25,000 bond, KXAN reported.
