A Louisiana woman was sleeping in her bedroom when a female intruder broke into her home and began to cut her with a kitchen knife, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the victim woke up and was able to fight off her attacker, who then ran away. Officers said the incident occurred on Elizabeth Street in Donaldsonville around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Sheriff Bobby Webre said officers were able to apprehend the assailant, identified as Peggy Valentine, 43, and charged her with attempted first-degree murder and home invasion.
APSO said the victim was transported to a hospital where she was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening. The motive for the attack was not immediately clear. The investigation remains ongoing.
