Family, friends, and supporters held a prayer vigil Sunday night at a Florida Beach in honor of the life of late Navarre mother Cassie Carli, whose body was found buried in a shallow grave.
On Sunday afternoon, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson announced at a news conference that the body of 37-year-old Carli was found on Saturday evening in a shallow grave in a barn in Alabama. “It’s not the ending that we wanted, obviously,” Sheriff Johnson said. “but we’re hoping to provide a little closure for the family.”
Carli was reported missing last Sunday after a custody exchange of her daughter with her ex-boyfriend Marcus Spanevelo.
Cassie’s family and friends were joined by dozens of community members Sunday night as the sun set at Navarre Beach.
Several people, including Cassie’s sister Raeann, Cassie’s father, her close friends, law enforcement officers, and ministers issued heartbreaking statements in front of the crowd.
A card was signed for Cassie’s family by community members. In addition, organizers have announced a plan to hold other fundraisers/raffles to raise money for the family in the future.
The investigation into Cassie’s death is ongoing. The result of her body’s autopsy is set to be released on Monday. Sheriff Johnson said Spanevelo will face additional charges once the autopsy is complete.
Cassie leaves behind her 4-year-old daughter Saylor.
