As we approach this election, you need to read this message from Actress Nikki Reed before casting your ballots.
“A lesson in digging deeper, especially as we approach this election. We stand behind our decisions with loyalty and conviction, but how many of us actually do the research? The Twilight Saga actress, 32, wrote on Instagram.
How many are voting with single issues in mind? This election is quite possibly the most important of our lifetime. I encourage all of us, no matter who you choose to vote for, to dig a little deeper.
To think a little bigger. Think beyond one or two issues you care about, and look at the macro. How do we fit into the world? What policies resonate with you? Can you talk about those at length? If you feel angry or passionate, why? Is it political or personal?
This is America, and in America we vote. Let’s know what we are voting for! Here’s the test in this household: if you cannot speak for 1 hour straight about a variety of issues/ proposals/congressional laws/ your state’s senators (excluding the issues you feel most passionate about) then you have more homework to do.
I know I certainly do, which is why we developed this challenge in our home. Example, democrats can you pass the hour without talking about the climate crisis and republicans can you pass the hour without talking about abortion? Can we tackle topics that are not in our top 3 passion areas? Want to join in this challenge?”
Here is a comment of a grateful fan:
“I love this sentiment and I think that it’s is something that is missing from the political dialogue today. It seems like a lot of our convictions are coming from an emotional place, and not a place of research, reason, logic, and understanding. We have a tendency to distill big concepts and ideologies into simple, one-dimensional sound bytes. Thank you for using your platform to promote a more holistic approach to one of our fundamental rights! This is the content we need!
