A United States Army soldier stationed at Fort Polk was arrested after being accused of raping a Louisiana State University student on campus earlier this month, police said. The accused soldier, Desmond Saine, 22, of Little Rock, Arkansas, is now in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
According to officials at the LSU Police Department, they responded to a report of a rape that took place on campus in the early morning hours of March 13.
The victim told detectives she and Desmond met at an off-campus party and exchanged contact, according to the arrest report.
After the party, police said Desmond contacted the victim and went to her dorm room, demanding to hang out with her.
The victim told investigators that Desmond wanted to kiss her but she refused. At that point, the victim said Desmond grabbed her and then began to remove her clothing and raped her against her will, officers wrote in the arrest reports.
The victim also told investigators that she had about eleven bottles of beer at the party and was drunk at the time of her rape, according to the arrest records.
According to the report, Desmond commented on the victim’s level of intoxication after the party, telling her she had a lot to drink.
Multiple people who witnessed the aftermath of the alleged assault told detectives that the victim was very distraught.
Cops said they obtained an arrest warrant on March 23 and made contact with Desmond at Fort Polk the next day. However, Desmond said he didn’t rape the victim, but admitted to being rejected when he attempted to kiss her, according to the arrest reports.
Police arrested Desmond and booked him into the Vernon Parish Prison as a fugitive. He was later transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail where he was charged with first-degree rape, WAFB reported.
Police said Desmond currently has a pending case for a previous rape allegation which is related to this fresh one.
