A Florida man was arrested on Thursday after police said he abducted a woman and demanded ransom money from her ex-husband through Facebook.
Police told WFLA that the alleged kidnapper, Lamar Dion Jones, 52, of St. Petersburg, contacted the victim’s ex through Facebook messenger on Wednesday night and demanded money from him.
According to an arrest report, Jones threatened to harm the victim if her ex failed to pay the ransom.
However, Jones did not know that the entire conversation was recorded by a police officer who was present during the call, according to the department.
Detectives confirmed the victim was held against her will and was threatened. Jones was arrested on kidnapping charges. He is being held in Pinellas County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
