On Sunday, four teenage inmates and three supervisors at an Ohio detention center were transported to the hospital after coming in contact with fentanyl that was released through air vents, according to officials.
The Williams County Sheriff’s Office told a local news outlet that the victims began to collapse at Northwest Ohio Juvenile detention center in Stryker, and a health alarm was sparked as a result of the incident.
After a subsequent search, investigators discovered that fentanyl, a most common drug in overdose deaths, had spread through the air ventilation system. Deputy Jeff Lehman told the outlet that the department is looking into how the fentanyl made it there.
According to Lehman, the seven victims were hospitalized and their conditions weren’t critical. As a result of the incident, the other teenage inmates were transferred to the adult detention facility, where they will remain separated from adult inmates until the incident is thoroughly investigated, according to officials.
