A Georgia man is presently in Poland on the edges of the war helping Ukrainian families who are escaping from the current war in their country.
Raj Armani, from Cobb County, knew he had to do something to help because his wife, Jenny, is from Ukraine.
Armani left his metro Atlanta home a few days ago and is now on the Polish border with Ukraine helping Ukrainian families.
“At the moment we realized that, a chill ran down our spine because we’ve never been so close to a war zone,” Armani said.
“We had this compelling feeling to do something, but it was unclear what should we do,” he said. “When the invasion happened, it kind of felt like the ground slipped under our legs.”
Before leaving his Cobb County home, Armani and his wife made a plan to help 100 Ukrainian families. Armani flew to Poland while his wife remained at home with their kids.
From his apartment in Poland, Raj Armani described to WSBTV what he’s seen over the last few days.
“Systematic chaos. There are people wandering. There are people who just entered the new country. They’re trying to find information, they’re trying to find internet, they’re trying to find restrooms,” he explained.
He is actually providing families with temporary accommodations, groceries and whatever else they need to rebuild their lives in a foreign country.
Armani has so far helped six families and created a Gofundme page to help raise money to help many more.
“Be thankful for the freedom we have. Be thankful for the blessings we have. We realize that more when we meet people for whom the blessings and freedom were taken away,” he said.
