Authorities in Florida, are furiously on the hunt for a murderer who cut the throats of a couple on their way coming home from Main Street on bicycles.
“This is probably one of the most vicious and gruesome incidents that I’ve witnessed in my 20 years,” Chief Jakari Young told WESH 2 News. “We can’t rule out that this may be totally random, but if it is totally random, the person responsible has to be deranged.”
According to police, the man and his wife, who were discovered dead early Sunday morning, suffered multiple stab wounds and lacerations.
Daytona Beach police officers responded to the terrible crime at around 1 a.m. after someone phoned 911 to report the double homicide. At first, police officers thought the victims may have been involved in a hit-and-run.
Soon after they arrived on scene, officers found the bodies of 48-year-old Terry Aultman and 55-year-old Brenda Aultman – both residents of Daytona Beach. According to the police report, both victims were covered in blood and with multiple stab wounds and lacerations to their bodies. Paramedics declared both dead at the scene within minutes of the initial 911 call.
People residing in the neighborhood said they are terrified, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
“My wife is not leaving the house by herself. I can tell you that right now. And obviously, it was a man and a woman, so it makes you think even the both of us. How safe is our neighborhood?” asked Donald Sears.
Officers described the suspect as a man wearing white or light-colored pants and a backpack. The victims’ bicycles were discovered near their bodies. Investigators said they have processed the two bicycles for evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement agents are working on all aspects of the case, including determining the motive for the attack as well as identifying whoever was involved in these gruesome murders.
