A Virginia man was found dead three days after he tried to walk home in a snowstorm after he crashed his car last Monday, according to a report.
The body of the 34-year-old dad, Jacob Whaley, was discovered on Thursday by a search party in Louisa where his family had told police he may have been after he was first reported missing, WRIC said.
According to the report, Whaley was trying to walk the six-mile distance to his home in wintry conditions. When his relatives could not reach him on the phone, and he never made it home, they alerted the sheriff’s office and reported Whaley could’ve possibly been near Greene’s Corner Road.
Whaley’s family said police should have found him alive when deputies responded to the site but did not initially find him.
Whaley’s mother, Shannon Whaley, told the news outlet that she was so angry with the sheriff’s office, saying all they had to do was go out and holler for him.
Whaley’s sister, Angela Whaley, also blamed Louisa County for letting his brother freeze to death, according to WRIC.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement, has mourned Whaley’s death.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Jacob Whaley,” the office said. Missing Persons cases are always a top priority for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and we share in their grief and sorrow.”
