A man suspected of stabbing a police dog was shot and killed by a Seattle police officer, authorities said.
On Wednesday, the Seattle Police Department responded to a South Seattle resident at around 2:45 p.m., reporting that a man with a knife was breaking into their home.
When cops arrived at the scene, the suspect fled on foot, and a responding officer with a police dog started chasing him, police said.
The suspect fatally stabbed the police dog after the dog engaged with him on the 6700 block of Swift Avenue South, police said. The suspect also wounded the cop that was him in an ensuing struggle, according to the police narrative. Police said another officer arrived and fatally shot the suspect, per Oregon Live.
Authorities have not released the names of the suspect shot and the officers involved. However, the police department said an investigation regarding the shooting is underway, and a video of the incident will be released within 72 hours.
