A Texas dad was fatally shot as he carried his daughter’s birthday cake outside a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, according to reports.
On Friday night, the 24-year-old dad, Calogero Duenes, had just arrived at the restaurant for his daughter’s sixth birthday when the car owner in the parking lot gunned him down after an argument, police said.
Before the shots rang out, Duenes got into a verbal exchange with the driver after he drove the car down a parking lot aisle in the wrong direction.
At the time of the deadly incident, Duenes’ two daughters, Marrlow, 3, and 6-year-old birthday girl Serina, have already entered the restaurant with their mother.
In a statement to KTOU-TV, Duenes’ wife, Amber Uresti, said her husband ran in and was screaming at the top of his voice, ‘I got shot! I got shot!’ “And I ran out behind him, my daughters ran out behind me, they saw him laying on the floor,” Uresti told the outlet.
Duenes was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wounds. Humble police said the confrontation was caught on surveillance camera in the lot, and they believe the shooter was driving a black Ford car.
Uresti told KTRK-TV that the shooting had left her 6-year-old daughter shaken.
“He had no weapons.” “He was holding my daughter’s birthday cake. He had nothing on him. I don’t understand why,” she told the station.
“My daughter has been crying,” she said. “She slept last night with her father’s shirt, crying until she fell asleep, and it breaks my heart. There’s nothing I can tell her. There’s no words to tell her other than, ‘Daddy is with you in your heart. He loves you.’ ”
