A Pastor in Chicago says he’s glad Jussie Smollett ‘got caught in his lie’ for staging a hate crime hoax that nearly divided the nation and stoked racial tensions.
Speaking in his latest episode of Rooftop Revelations, Pastor Corey Brooks said he is glad the disgraced actor got caught in his lie. Brooks, who leads New Beginnings Church in the south side of Chicago, has a detailed knowledge of the violence plaguing the state.
Brooks said he was extremely angry with the 39-year-old actor for using racism as the bottom line of the fake attack when so much stuff is going on in Chicago with all the fights and shooting.
‘He comes to our city and uses the race card to divide us, not to help us deal with the issues we’re faced with not to help us deal with – the violence we’re dealing with every single day – but uses the race card to further divide us as American people.’
Brooks also blasted celebrities and media outlets such as GQ magazine for blindly supporting Smollett and stoked racial tensions before learning the whole story.
‘I wonder how [GQ] must feel now after supporting a man who tried to racially divide all of America,’ Brooks said.
Smollett was found guilty on five counts of disorderly conduct last week for staging a bogus racist and homophobic hate crime.
The former Empire actor faces up to 20 years in prison for staging the fake hate crime hoax when he recruited two brothers to pose as his attackers. In addition, Smollett lied to Police that he was attacked by two white men in Chicago in early January 2019, just outside his apartment.
The only Black juror on the panel that convicted Smollett for staging the fake attack also said he couldn’t get past what the actor did not do after claiming two men attacked and looped a noose around his neck.
Smollett hired two Nigerian brothers Abimbola and Olanbinjio Osundairo, to carry out the fake attack and paid them $3,500.
Smollett’s claims that the attackers racially abused him and hung a noose around his neck were first accepted as accurate and sparked nationwide condemnation, especially among prominent liberals and the left.
