A Florida substitute teacher is accused of having sex with a teenage student who allegedly shared one of their private romantic moments in a Snapchat video, authorities said.
On Friday, Ayanna Davis, who is a substitute English teacher at Lakeland High School, was arrested for having sex with the teenage student four times, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The 20-year-old teacher admitted to having unprotected sex with the student four times, twice at her house and twice at the student’s house.
Davis’ candid confession matched with the victim’s report. Authorities did not disclose the student’s exact age wasn’t, but they listed him in the release as 16-years old or younger.
On Dec. 3, authorities launched an investigation on the teacher after the school’s resource officer discovered a Snapchat video, which showed Davis having sex with a student, circulating among other students. A large group of the school’s football team was reportedly caught watching the video.
Law enforcement officials, however, have not yet been able to watch the video, Sheriff Grady Judd told WFLA.
After interviewing her, the sheriff’s office charged Davis with two counts of sexual battery by custodian and offenses against students by an authority figure in addition to two additional counts of sexual battery by the Lakeland Police Department.
“This is a clear violation of sexual battery laws. She was in a position of influence over the victim, and she took advantage of that for her own twisted pleasure,” Judd said.
Davis first appeared in court on December 11, where a $60,000 bond was ordered for all five charges. Her arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2022.
