A New Jersey mother has been apprehended after she fatally stabbed her 5-month-old daughter, prosecutors said.
The 26-year-old mother, Kristhie Alcazar, was charged with murder in the horrific killing of the child at a home in Penns Grove on Friday night, the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Late Friday night, December 3, police responded to an open 911 call with an audible disturbance in the background.
Based upon the 911 call, officers arrived at the scene and found Alcazar quarreling with another person. They also found the dead child. According to prosecutors, the baby’s cause of death has been determined to be a homicide as a result of multiple stab wounds to the chest area.
Multiple knives were also recovered at the scene, and no other persons were injured, authorities said. The baby’s dad was at work at the time of the homicide.
The accused mother is presumed innocent until proven guilty, prosecutors said.
