On Sunday afternoon, the body of a 22-year-old University of New Hampshire student was discovered in a marshy area near the campus after he was reported missing a day earlier, investigators said.
The young student, Vincenzo Lirosi, vanished after a night of drinking, according to police. Lirosi was last seen on Saturday morning shortly after being kicked out of a fraternity party where he reportedly got into a fight, one of his friends, Jordan Blanchard, told WMUR-TV.
However, Blanchard told the news station that It’s pretty uncharacteristic of Lirosi to get into a fight. “This is his first fight ever,” Blanchard said of his friend, stating that Lirosi was kicked out of the party following the alleged feud.
Other people who attended the party told police they last saw Lirosi walking along a wooden path frequented by students around campus at about 1 a.m. Saturday. About two hours later, Lirosi was reported missing.
“Though this is not the outcome we all had hoped for, we are grateful that we were able to find Vincenzo and bring some closure to his family,” said Durham Police Chief Rene Kelley, according to the report.
An autopsy will determine Lirosi’s cause of death.
