Four people were reportedly shot at a Texas high school after a student pulled out a gun during a fight with his classmate. Police, on Wednesday morning, responded to an active shooter scene at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas.
The Arlington Police Department says a search is underway for the 18-year-old shooter, Timothy George Simpkins, who took off in a 2018 Silver Dodge Charger with license plate PFY-6260.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred due to a fight between two students, leaving a total of four people in critical condition. Two of the injured were gunshot victims, investigators said. One victim was a teacher, and the three others were students.
The Arlington Police Department has conducted a “methodical search” of the campus after the incident. The Mansfield Independent School District released the following statement regarding the shooting:
“Mansfield ISD police, Arlington police and other neighboring law enforcement agencies are investigating an active shooter situation at Timberview High School.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz also released the following statement at a press conference regarding the shooting:
“There have been far too many of these at far too many schools. We are hopeful that all of the students, or individuals, who may have been injured will come through and survive.”
The high school is currently on lockdown following the shooting. Parents can pick up their children at the Center for Performing Arts located at 1110 W. Debbie.
Updated: Timothy George Simpkins has surrendered following a manhunt, police said. He was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, The New York Post reports.
