The Laundries family lawyer, on Tuesday, revealed Brian Laundrie flew his parents’ home to Florida to get supplies and close out a rented storage unit. According to his family’s lawyer, Brian flew home days after his infamous fight with Gabby Petito in Utah. He later rejoined his girlfriend before her disappearance.
Steven Bertolino, the Laundries’ lawyer, on Tuesday, revealed the twist in the case’s timeline to the New York Post. Bertolino to the Post that Brian returned to his parents’ Florida home on August 17 and then flew back to Salt Lake City on August 23 to rejoin Gabby.
“Brian flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money as [he and Petito] contemplated extending the road trip,” Bertolino told the Post.
Brian’s brief sojourn home came after his infamous fight with Gabby Petito in Utah on August 12, a matter that involved cops. 23-year-old Brian then flew back to rejoin his girlfriend in Utah on August 23 — four days before the 22-year-old Long Island native was last seen.
Brian’s sister, Cassie Laundrie, had admitted on Monday that her fugitive brother made the trip back to Florida in mid-August. Witnesses spotted Brian and Gabby at a Wyoming restaurant on August 27, the last day Gabby was seen alive.
On Sept. 1, Brian returned to his parents’ home in Florida alone in Gabby’s van but without her. He then went camping with his family (mom, dad, sister) at the Fort De Soto campground until Sept. 7.
On Sept. 17, Brian’s parents reported him missing. He told his parents he was going for a hike and never returned since then. Gabby’s body was found at the Teton-Bridger National Forest in Wyoming on Sept. 19, two days after her fugitive boyfriend was reported missing. A coroner later declaring her death a homicide.
Brian has been named a person of interest in his girlfriend’s disappearance and death. He is now the subject of a massive manhunt by the FBI. The revelation that Brian flew home in mid-August suggests that he and Gabby separated at some point after being stopped by police on August 12 in Moab, Utah, and then reunited.
After being questioned over reports of a domestic incident by police in Moab, no charges were filed against either Brian or Gabby. Instead, they were separated for the night. Brian was taken to a local hotel while Gabby remained in the van.
On August 19, Gabby posted a photo on Instagram that showed Brian inside her van. However, it remains unknown where and when that particular photo was taken.
Gabby’s mom heard her daughter’s voice for the last time on August 25. Two days later, witnesses last saw her with her boyfriend at the Merry Piglet restaurant in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where Brain reportedly got into an “aggressive” spat with the staff.
