A middle school drama teacher was arrested on Monday after she was accused of having sex with a former student in her car on multiple occasions. The Miami Herald reports.
The 31-year-old teacher began a relationship with the 14-year-old teen in August after texting the teen about “her feelings toward” him. The Miami Herald has learned. According to the source, Lopez-Murray and the student exchanged text messages with details on how much they enjoy sex with each other.
Lopez-Murray would sometimes pick up the student after basketball training and allegedly engage in sexual acts with him in her car. This teacher was named “rookie teacher of the year” in 2017, after teaching at Hialeah Middle for four years.
Per the report, the student’s sister uncovered the alleged relationship on Saturday after seeing explicit photos and texts between her brother and the teacher. Nude photos of Lopez-Murray were also found on the boy’s phone by his father. Lopez-Murray will be dismissed from the Miami-Dade school district in light of her arrest.
She was charged on multiple counts, including engaging in a sexual act with a child, molestation, lewd and lascivious battery. Lopez-Murray’s lawyer said his client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The lawyer also urged people to be patient and not to judge the teacher so soon.
