As the search for fugitive Brian Laundrie enters its third week, authorities are wondering how he’s been able to elude them this long. Investigators are now suspecting his parents may have helped give him a head start.
Brian’s parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, have not been accused of covering their son. However, their actions have been scrutinized by critics in the weeks following the disappearance and death of their former future daughter-in-law, Gabby Petito. Brian and his parents went on a Labor Day camping trip, three days after they haven’t seen Petito. They subsequently said nothing about the fact that she was missing and went camping anyway.
Chris and Roberta Laundrie will consequently be charged if investigators eventually find out that they provided them with false information, letting Brian Laundrie take off and get a week head start. There’s certainly a basis for charging the parents if they sent investigators on a wild goose chase, searching the preserve when their son wasn’t there. Said Neama Rahmani, a federal prosecutor, per Fox News.
The Laundrie family hasn’t said anything when Petito did not return with their son even though she lived with them. At least they should have shown concerns about their former future daughter-in-law’s whereabouts. Instead, they chose to go on a Labor Day camping trip.
Brian returned to his parents’ home on Sept. 1 in Petito’s van but without her. The family has kept almost entirely quiet for ten days, while Petito was reported missing by her mother on Sept. 11. Petito’s mother reported her missing after she couldn’t reach the 23-year-old Long Island native on the phone for days.
At the end of August, investigators found Petito’s body at a campsite where she stayed in the van with Brian Laundrie. Brian has so far been named as a person of interest in the Petito case. In addition, he is also wanted for allegedly using someone else’s debit card without permission and withdrawing more than $1,000.
Brain’s parents have maintained that they have no idea where their son is. Moreover, the question remains what did they asked their son when he returned alone without his girlfriend? Or what did their son tell them when he returned alone?
