Cummings Elementary School in Memphis, Tennessee, is on lockdown following a shooting that left one student in critical condition. The Memphis Police Department responded to a shooting incident at Cummings Elementary School on Thursday morning.
According to the report, a student was injured in the shooting and was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment. The child was reported to be in critical condition—Memphis fire officials reports.
In a statement regarding the shooting, the school’s superintendent said:
“We are aware of the incident at Cummings K-8 and will share preliminary information as soon as possible. The school is currently on lockdown as a safety precaution. Parents have been notified of the situation. We are working with SCS Security and the Memphis Police Department to gather more information for further updates.”
The Memphis Police Department also released a statement, saying they were on the scene clearing the building, ensuring students and faculty are moved to a staging area. In a video from the scene, students and staff can be seen coming out of the building with their hands up.
No other injuries were reported as police continued to investigate the scene. Moreover, police said they are looking for a male juvenile suspect.
