Nicki Minaj reveals she won’t be performing at the upcoming 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, as she suddenly pulled out.
The 38-year-old rapper left fans puzzled after revealing the surprising news on Twitter Friday. When asked by a fan whether she is performing at the VMAs, Minaj gave a surprising answer.
I just pulled out. I’ll explain why another day. But I love those guys at MTV. thank you Bruce. I love you so much. Next year we there baby. https://t.co/QkueA9fcOu

Replying to the fan, Minaj clearly stated that she just pulled out and promised to come up with a reason behind her sudden decision. However, it hadn’t been formally unveiled that she was taking to the stage at the ceremony in New York. Presumably, for personal reasons, Minaj promises to explain why she pulled out. Moreover, she also promised to probably attend the show in 2022.
One of the reasons Minaj suddenly pulled out is her husband, Kenneth Petty. Minaj’s Husband, on Friday, pleads guilty to failure to register as a sex offender in California. As a result, he is currently facing a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release – according to PEOPLE.
Petty was convicted of attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl; therefore, he is required to register as a sex offender, which he failed to do. In 2020, Petty was arrested for failure to register as a sex offender and posted $100,000 bail as he pleaded not guilty – according to records accessed by PEOPLE.
Last month, Jennifer Hough, Petty’s alleged rape victim, filed a lawsuit against him and Minaj, accusing the couple of attempting to bribe her with a sum of $500,000 to recant her claims. A New York Times article confirmed.
So, as you can see, Minaj and her husband are currently facing legal issues. For this reason, she obviously can’t attend the MTV VMAs, which is set to take place on Sep 13 at the Barclays Center, New York. The show is set to be hosted by fellow rapper Doja Cat.
