EXO’s Chanyeol, Sehun and Baekhyun are not too far behind. Blackpink as a group is not the most followed on Instagram, BTS is. Lisa first became the most followed K-pop idol on Instagram, with 17.4 million followers in 2019. Her followers grew to 35.4 million followers in 2020. As of February 2021 and at the time of this writing, Lisa has 46.3 million followers on the platform. She was the first K-Pop female idol to be appointed as a Global Brand Ambassador for MAC Cosmetics in 2020. Lisa announced the news via Instagram last year. Lisa is one of the most popular singers overseas according to “2021 Overseas Korean Wave Survey”.
2. Blackpink’s Jennie (39.5 million followers)
Here comes Blackpink’s Jennie in second place with 39.5 million followers as of Feb 2021. Jennie has been nicknamed “Human Gucci” and “Human Chanel” in Blackpink’s fashionable image. Her sense of fashion led her to appear on the cover of several fashion magazines including, Dazed, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, High Cut, W, Cosmopolitan, and Billboard.
3. Blackpink’s Jisoo (35.8m followers)
Blackpink’s Jisoo is the third most followed K-Pop idol on Instagram as of Feb 2021. In 2019, Jisoo became the tenth most followed K-pop idol on Instagram, with 12.8 million followers and was ranked as the sixth most popular female K-pop idol at the time. As of Feb 2021, Jisoo has 35.8 million followers on Instagram.
4. Blackpink’s Rosé (35.7 million followers)
Here comes Blackpink’s Rosé, the fourth most followed K-pop idol on Instagram with 35.7 million followers as of the time of this writing. Rosé was crowned global ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent in 2020. She was the global image for Saint Laurent’s Fall 2020 campaign. In January this year, Rosé became the muse for luxury cosmetics brand Yves Saint Laurent Beauté.
5. Exo’s Chanyeol (22.7 million followers)
Exo’s Chanyeol, whose real name is Park Chan-yeol, ranks No 5 with 22.7 million followers. He is the most followed male K-pop idol on Instagram. 6. GOT7’s Jackson Wang (21.8 million followers)
The Hong Kong rapper is the second most followed K-Pop male idol on Instagram after EXO’s Chanyeol. Apart from his group activity in South Korea, Wang is also known to be the founder of record label Team Wang, and lead designer for fashion brand Team Wang Design. He is active in mainland China as a solo artist and television host.
7. EXO’s Sehun (21.2 million followers)
Oh Se-hun, known by his stage name Sehun, is not too far behind his band mate Chanyeol. Sehun also has appeared in various television dramas and movies such as Secret Queen Makers (2018) and Dokgo Rewind (2018). In August 2018, Sehun graced the cover of Vogue Korea magazine, becoming the second male K-Pop idol who has a solo Vogue cover after G-Dragon. Her continuous had work both in singing and acting made her one of the highest-earning celebrities in South Korea. She makes most of her money through endorsement deals. IU has used her platform to endorsed various products that ranged from electronics to clothing and cosmetics. She has also garnered more than 800 thousand followers on Twitter.
