Moderna, a biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that focuses on drug discovery says preliminary trial data shows its coronavirus vaccine is more than 94% effective, making it the second vaccine in the United States to have a stunningly high success rate.
Moderna CEO, Stéphane Bancel, announced via the company’s website that among the trial’s 30,000 participants, the analysis evaluated 95 confirmed Covid-19 infections. The 95 COVID-19 cases included 15 older adults (ages 65+) and 20 participants identifying as being from diverse communities (including 12 Hispanic or LatinX, 4 Black or African Americans, 3 Asian Americans and 1 multiracial).
After the announcement was made on Monday, President Trump took to Tweeter to remind Americans not to forget that those discoveries happened under his watch.
“Another Vaccine just announced. This time by Moderna, 95% effective. For those great “historians”, please remember that these great discoveries, which will end the China Plague, all took place on my watch!” Trump said in a tweet.
