Los Angeles Angels on Thursday hired former Atlanta Braves assistant general manager, Perry Minasian, 40, to be their new general manager.
After firing their former GM Billy Eppler due to their fifth consecutive losing season, the Angles launched a wide-ranging search for new GM that led them to interviewing at least 16 candidates before deciding on Minasian.
Minasian was among five candidates who advanced into the second round of the interview this week and was seen as the clear front-runner as of Wednesday night.
Baseball broadcaster Victor Rojas who is currently the TV voice of the Los Angeles Angels made this statement about Minasian in a tweet today:
“I’ve known Perry Minasian since our days together with Texas Rangers. From the jump, he delved right into working his way up in FO after growing up in/around clubhouse with his dad. Outgoing, smart, witty and a generally outstanding baseball man. If true, I’m thrilled for him/us! #Angels.”
Minasian is a baseball enthusiast who began as a bat boy for the Texas Rangers when he was 8 years old. Coming from a deep-rooted baseball family, Minasian’s father, Zack, was the Rangers’ longtime clubhouse manager, served as a bat boy and a clubhouse attendant for 15 years, then spent the next six years as an advanced scout and a staff assistant for former Rangers manager Buck Showalter.
