The Samsung Galaxy S22 will not be getting Galaxy AI features and right here on this post, I will be sharing with you the reasons why. Well before that, here is an exclusive: “We want to secure the quality and the performance of what we deploy.”
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Galaxy AI Features
Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, mentioned in an interview with TechRadar that the AI-powered features introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will not be extended to the 2022 devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, anytime soon. Chomet noted that bringing these features to the Galaxy S24 series was a significant effort, and the company is planning to support the Galaxy S23 devices with Galaxy AI within the first half of the year.
While the Galaxy S22 series is less than two years old, it appears that the AI features introduced in the latest Galaxy S24 devices will not be immediately available for the 2022 lineup. However, Samsung is committed to supporting the Galaxy S23 devices with Galaxy AI in the coming months, showcasing the company’s focus on delivering new features and updates to its users.
What Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience Has To Say about the New Development
“We want to ensure that, over time, our AI experiences can be supported by [mobile] performance, which leads to CPU and GPU capability,” Chomet continued. “So for now, we are learning; we are going step-by-step. We know that Galaxy AI works well on the Galaxy S24 series and we know it will work well on [the Galaxy S23 series]. But we don’t know what the intensity of AI usage will be for the average customer, and [therefore how that] intensity will impact on-device resources and cloud resources.”
“Number one, we want to secure the quality and the performance of what we deploy. Then we will learn how people use [these features] and tune the performance. Number two, we will deploy [Galaxy AI] on a second set of devices – specifically, the S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 – to see how it works.”
The New Galaxy AI Features Will Not Be Extended To the Galaxy S22 Line and Older Devices
Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet, mentioned that the new Galaxy AI features introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will not be extended to the Galaxy S22 line and older devices “for now.” Chomet acknowledged the chipset uniformity between the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and Samsung Galaxy S22, both equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chipset, but clarified that the Galaxy AI features are currently limited to last-gen devices.
What the Focus on Last-Gen Devices Mean
While Chomet used language like “for now” and “step-by-step” when discussing future Galaxy AI compatibility, it appears that the Galaxy S22 line and older devices are not expected to receive the new features, despite being eligible for a One UI 6.1 update.
The focus on last-gen devices such as the Galaxy S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, and others suggests that the new Galaxy AI features may be added through updates like One UI 6.1. However, the Galaxy S22 series might not be part of the current plans for these specific AI enhancements.
