A six-month-old baby who died after being found unresponsive on Saturday at a Brevard County, Florida home reportedly drowned, according to autopsy results released on Tuesday.
According to The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the child’s mother contacted 911 on Saturday night, reporting that her baby was not breathing. Responding officers soon arrived at the home and found the baby unresponsive. The infant was rushed to a hospital, where it was pronounced dead.
BCSO said its investigation revealed that the child had been left unattended in a bathtub.
On Monday afternoon, nearby neighbors who live on Yarber Avenue spoke to reporters saying they were shocked by the tragic news.
One neighbor, Marlene Hummer, who has lived in her home in the neighborhood for 31 years, told Fox35 that news of the baby’s death broke her heart. “We just don’t see very many babies around here,” Hummer said.
The case remains under investigation.
